Are female molds better than male?

Postby Stefan Giachino » Mon May 25, 2009 4:20 am

I have heard a little about female molds in vac forming. I heard that you can get better detailing with a female mold. However, doesn't that mean that you must drill little holes in the bottom of the master in order to pull the plastic into the recesses. As a result, it seems that you would have little undesired holes all over your results. How does this work?

Hello Stefan, I know a lot of time has passed since you posted your question, but I wondered if you had any contact regarding this subject? I have been forming with female mold recently and with good success. I do drill extremely small holes to draw the plastic into the form and it works great. Love to hear what you have found out or experiencing.
